About Big Byte Computer Services

The owner of Big Byte Computer Services is Ruben Chavez

Why the name Big Byte? Well, Ruben is a big guy. He is between 6'3" and 6'4" and he won't say how much he weighs. :) It fits. :)

ruben Ruben was born and raised in Colorado and has lived in the Commerce City area for pretty much his entire life. He was introduced to computers during the 386/486 era by a good friend who taught him the basics about them. Being curious by nature, (loves to read instruction manuals and thick books that would put a normal person into coma) he enjoyed learning how they worked and helping his friend fix issues that would come up from time to time. The first computer owned by Ruben was a Packard Bell machine running at 75 MHz that his mom bought for him and his brother. His love for music moved him to get a Sound Blaster Awe 32 soundcard and start experimenting with MIDI music on that machine.

Fast forward a few years, Ruben found a job at a small local energy consulting company where he was a research assistant and would enter data and assist the system administrator with computer problems. During this time, he learned how to program using Visual Basic 3 and created a few in-house applications for the company. Those applications would be upgraded to Visual Basic 6 and later to .NET technology.

Along with stand-alone applications, programming for the web was also something Ruben got into and has been doing ever since, using Microsoft technologies.

ruben Towards the end of his employment with the consulting company (10 yrs), Ruben had built a few dynamic, database driven intranet applications including an Email Marketing site and several other applications for data retrieval and analysis. He was also very much involved in setting up new network infrastructure, including Windows 2003 domain controllers, Microsoft Exchange for internal email, network switches, and cleaning co-worker’s computers that had been attacked by viruses. He would be the "go to" guy when it came to Microsoft Windows operating system issues.

For the past year and a half or so, Ruben has been working with a friend and has created a few web applications, like a service oriented web application to store service call data and an online order tracking system where customers can use information from their order to check the status of their order and get tracking information if applicable.

Since October 2010, Ruben went back to the small consulting company and has been creating several intranet applications. As of late, he has been working on the client portal site of company's website using .NET technology.

Off the clock, he has been helping friends and family with their computer issues (upgrades, virus/spyware clean up, new system consulting, etc) for last 10 or so years and feels good about helping them out. It’s been this that has convinced Ruben that he knows enough about computers and should try to expand in helping others and not charging an arm and a leg for honest, professional service for home and small business owners. Typically these folks do not have the resources for a full time IT department and are looking for alternatives to the well-known commercial computer repair companies that some have been burned by.

ruben Always learning, Ruben constantly reads tech blogs, news sites and other means on the internet or on paper to add to his knowledge of technology. If he does not know how to do something, he will learn how to do it, and learn it quick.

The bottom line is: Big Byte Computer Services is a home grown operation whose owner loves computers and technology, and enjoys helping people use that technology for their benefit.

In Ruben's spare time, he volunteers in the community and also plays bass guitar (as you can tell).
